The Benefits of the Woman to Woman Program
by Jackie Kold, CPT; CYT, RYT.

My personally-designed programs have helped numerous women lose weight and inches and keep them off when they couldn't in the past, even when they were exercising with other trainers in clubs on expensive fitness equipment.

Why? Although the personal training and care I put into my training is important, without the right programming, even the most dedicated and experienced trainer cannot fully help their clients progress.  When  I opened the studio, I wanted a program that provided an excellent opportunity for success for clients at every fitness level.  Also important was that our programs could be easily followed at home in between sessions, and without having to purchase expensive exercise equipment other than 5-8 lb hand weights and a stability ball, which most people typically already own.

It is important for new clients to start with Lumbar Stabilization to ensure a strong back and core and for even longtime clients to revisit this program at least once every two weeks to ensure proper body alignment for all exercises.

The benefits of Yoga are endless.  When you stand up and use your own body weight for resistance, you engage all of your muscles to work together. The results? You develop strength, proportion and flexibility from head to toe, creating a longer, leaner look.  For example, moving your body through Sun Salutations allows you to work the body in unison to integrate, rather than isolate, muscles, protecting you from developing muscle imbalances and providing for the proportionate legs and seat of a yoga body with the effectiveness and efficiency of a whole-body, weight bearing exercise.  In addition, yogic science is medicine with more and more doctors recognizing and recommending yoga to their patients.

The combined practice of mind and body can be life transforming and each asana gives us peace and joy by increasing circulation and oxygen flow which are keys to healing all body systems. For weight training, traditional weight training on machines isolates one muscle at a time.

The result? Isolation leads to muscle imbalance, which creates a thicker, bulkier appearance and increases your risk of injury.

At the studio  free weights are used to adapt to the body and allow for freedom of movement with balance, strength and cardio exercises, such as Step Up to Balance with Scaptions, Ball Squats with Overhead Presses and other Total Body exercises that tone for lean muscle mass and reduce the risk of injury.

Cardio exercise is an important component, but at the studio it is used as part of the warm-up and interval training, while you are here.  We show you how to incorporate cardio into your workouts at home, rather than paying us to watch you on a machine! In addition, while an exercise based on cardio will decrease your fat, if used as a primary workout it will also decrease your muscle mass, thus lowering your metabolism and making it harder for you to lose weight.

So while cardio has its place, the after-burn you gain from a weight training and yoga workout--up to 48 hours and even while you sleep--compared to only a two-hour cardio burn is why our Total Body Strength and Yoga approach gets great results that mean losing the weight, keeping it off, a toned, sleek body with great posture and of course, renewed overall health for YOU!
